Welcome to the SITAR PROJECT
The Sitar project started as a presentation of my work for my final major project at the BRIT school, London in 2023. I introduced classical Indian music in the form of multiple presentations as I started learning how to play the sitar. The school project ended in May 2023, and I continued playing the sitar until July of that same year when I had to return the sitar to my school. In one journal entry, I had written that I fully intended to keep playing the sitar and showcase Indian music. However, no one but my teacher ever saw my work, and my goal to master the sitar was put on hold as I started uni. Now, I intend to resurrect the project to reach the goals I set.

Sitar progress videos
As I studied learning the sitar, I wrote a journal for every practice session I conducted over the 4 months. I stopped taking notes in May as my project ended and I no longer had a teacher. The different journals made up the majority of my project and are full of intricate notes I took over how I attempted to be better
About me
I am a student based in London. My interest in Indian culture stems from my interest in music, as I have been trained as a Western classical musician since 7. My discovery of Indian music comes from being introduced to the counter-culture movement and watching part of a small YouTube video of Pt. Ravi Shankar perform in the 1967 Monterey Festival. The sitar mesmerised me, and I instantly took to discovering more. I attended a performing arts school in London from age 16 to 18 to study music full-time, and the requirement to pass was to complete a final project, which I knew instantly after hearing that I could use the opportunity to introduce Indian music to Western audiences. Since I am no expert in the genre, a lot of research, talking to people who knew more about the genre, and diversifying my interest to encompass not just sitar and music was required, and what I produced was one of the proudest projects of my life.
